Demonstration Home Taps Insulspan and Advantage to Achieve Net-Zero Energy

A house designed to be on the cutting edge of earth-friendly building will use Insulspan structural insulated panels (SIPs) and Advantage insulated concrete foundation forms (ICFs) to help make it one of Western Canada’s most sustainable homes.

The Whistler Vision 2010 House will incorporate sustainable building practices and materials to demonstrate that homes can be healthy and energy efficient without sacrificing beauty or comfort. Insulspan’s SIPs – two sheets of oriented strand board laminated to a core of expanded polystyrene insulation – will be used for both the walls and roof, with the ICFs insulating the concrete foundation. The result will be a super-tight building envelope that will significantly reduce the home’s air leakage compared to traditional framing.
